THE CITY OF SALEM IS A NEW JERSEY CLEAN COMMUNITY
New Jersey Clean Communities is New Jersey’s only statewide, comprehensive, litter abatement program.

BLUE RECYCLING CONTAINERS ARE AVAILABLE FROM THE SALEM COUNTY IMPROVEMENT AUTHORITY AT 286 WELCHVILLE RD IN ALLOWAY. THE COST IS $8.00.

IN SALEM CITY THESE ITEMS MUST BE RECYCLED:

  • Plastic containers – ONLY numbers 1 and 2.
    Must be emptied and rinsed
    Do NOT crush. No caps or lids.
  • Glass bottles and jars – Must be emptied and rinsed
    No caps or lids.
  • Metal cans – Empty and rinse. Do NOT crush.
  • Newspapers, Cardboard, Junk mail

UNACCEPTABLE ITEMS, DO NOT PUT IN RECYCLING:

  • Plastic bags
  • Pizza boxes
  • Shredded paper
  • Lightbulbs
  • Windows/Mirrors
  • Scrap metal
  • Yard waste
  • Frozen food containers
  • Ceramics
  • Diapers
  • Hazardous waste containers
  • Plastic containers other than with a #1 or #2

DO NOT PUT RECYCLING IN PLASTIC BAGS
Please use a 40 gallon can or smaller. Total weight of can and contents cannot exceed 35 lbs.
The container must have drainage holes.
