Where We Are Open For Business!

2016-07-22 Salem City recently had the circus come to town in a coordinated effort by Mayor Charles Washington Jr. and City Council to raise funds to support local youth through long standing recreational organizations.  This was the first time the big circus tent had been raised in Salem City in almost 30 years.  At the City Council Meeting on Monday, November 21st,  checks were presented to the Salem Oaks Football Organization, Salem Oaks Cheer Leader Organization and the Salem Little League Organization.  Mayor Washington  thanked Council President Karen Roots and the ad-hoc committee for taking the lead and ensuring the necessary connections were made with local organizations and the circus to make the event a success.  Mayor Washington said “It was a great day for Salem to have the circus return after being away for so long and being able to present checks to the organization representatives was even greater.”  Mayor Washington acknowledged that the donations are a great example of how working together is beneficial to everyone to achieve common goals.  Hassan Cabell of Salem Oaks Organization said  “The donation was greatly appreciated and timely as they are raising funds to support their Go Blue Project where they intend to buy all new uniforms for their youth football teams. The local youth leagues were asked to sell tickets with the expectation of receiving a donation in return but also being able to have a fun filled night out with their families.”
